lost letter literacy...

why is it that people have forgotten the noble art of writing? is it so hard to expect a thoughtful letter every once in a while? email dialogue is fine but it seems that in this world of instant synchronous communication everyone is having a written phonecall with everyone else such that no one is left to sit, think, ponder, write....

writing has been the primary disseminator and preserver of knowledge over the last few centuries and has changed little much. it is the worthy successor of the oral tradition and will continue to be important even in the coming age of ESP (natural or artificial). i suggest a global movement to encourage thoughtful writing ('The Thoughtful Writers Club'?).

after that's taken care of we can then look at the proper grammar and syntax problem...
